Launching the Activities of the International Conference: “Tackling the Covid-19 Pandemic: Health, Economics, Diplomacy, and Social Perspectives”

The Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture is pleased to announce the launch of the activities of the international conference: “Tackling The Covid-19 Pandemic: Health, Economics, Diplomacy, and Social Perspectives” which will be held in cooperation between the Islamic Chamber, Padjadjaran University Alumni Association (IKA Unpad), the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) on 23- 25 February 2021, in the framework of the global efforts made to mitigate the economic repercussions of Covid-19.

Today, Monday, January 4, 2021, a press conference was held to announce the details of the upcoming event, with the participation of a group of distinguished experts from the organizations participating in the upcoming international conference, and it was broadcast live on the Zoom app and YouTube.
Ms. Irawati Hermawan, Chairwoman of the Padjadjaran University Alumni Association (IKA Unpad) stated that the conference will be pleased by the participation of number of key speakers whom have concerns about the five core issues that include the areas of economics, health, culture of adapting with new habits, the private sector, as well as international institutions dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The conference will present a distinguished group of speakers, including the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, the Governor of West Java, the President of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as many private sector leaders and international figures that have relation with the efforts to deal with the crisis.

Irawati added: “The international conference is an attempt to provide a platform for stakeholders to build a formula for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and achieving an appropriate economic recovery”.

Mr. Cecep Herawan, Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of global cooperation in facing the Corona virus crisis to overcome the current crisis and return to normal life.

Commenting on the importance of international cooperation in overcoming the crisis and the efforts made in the framework of combating the Coronavirus, Mrs. Alia Jafar, Director of International Relations at the Islamic Chamber, praised the efforts of the G20 countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Indonesia, in limiting the economic repercussions of the Coronavirus.

She also emphasized the keenness of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture and its endeavor to contribute to efforts of dealing with the epidemic and limiting its health and economic consequences not only at the local level, but also at the regional and global levels.

The Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) is an international organization affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It represents the private sector in the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,  totaling fifty-seven (57), in addition to the observer members, and other associate members of Muslim minorities.

The Chamber aims to enhance cooperation among its member states in the fields of trade, industry, and information technology, promoting investment opportunities and joint ventures among member states. The Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture was established upon the decision issued by the Seventh Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of Islamic Countries, which was held in May 1976 in Istanbul, Turkey. The idea was adopted by the first conference of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Islamic world that was also held in Istanbul in October 1977. Then the Chamber’s constitution was approved by the second conference of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which
was held in December 1978 in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. Its main Headquarters is located in Karachi, the economic capital of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
