Cooperation agreement between ICCIA and SMIIC

Signing a cooperation agreement between the Islamic Chamber and the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries

In a major strategic step to achieve partnership between two international Islamic organizations: A cooperation agreement has been signed between the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) and the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), with the aim of making a quantum leap in the field of developing and controlling the Halal industry in Islamic countries, to achieve sustainable economic growth, create job opportunities and enhance intra-trade, in addition to reaching aligned halal food standards along the supply chains to ensure the highest reliability of Halal certificates and the Halal label for consumers around the world.
The agreement also aims to support the awareness efforts and disseminate unified standards for halal food in order to facilitate the cooperation and trade exchange and enhance intra trade among the OIC countries, thus facilitating the mutual recognition of halal industry standards, certification and labels, in addition to enhancing the exchange of goods and products among member states.
The agreement also seeks to exchange information on new developments and updates in the Halal industry around the world, and also sharing the expertise of the Islamic Chamber Halal Certification Services company in the practical application of technical regulations and standards in the Halal industry, in support of SMIIC standards as the national halal standards in member states and the main standards in accrediting halal certificates.
Within the framework of the agreement, cooperation will take place between SMIIC and the Islamic Chamber to organize joint seminars and conferences with the aim of spreading awareness of the importance of the halal industry and its requirements for production and trade among all those interested in the halal industry from governments, producers and consumers. It also helps to support the development of halal infrastructure in the member countries that need to develop a national framework for accreditation and control the halal industry whether during production and trade or during importing halal food; which will be achieved through training, technical consultations, halal review system, certificates issuance and the ICHCS Halal Mark.

About SMIIC:
The Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC), as a sound mechanism for harmonization of standards among the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries and for preparation of new ones, aims at realizing harmonized standards in the Member States and eliminating technical barriers to trade and thus developing the trade among themselves. It shall establish certification and accreditation schemes for the purpose of expediting exchange of
materials, manufactured goods and products among Member States beginning with mutual
recognition of certificates.
SMIIC aims at developing quality infrastructure, by establishing uniformity in standardization,
metrology and accreditation activities including conformity assessment and quality improvement to facilitate trade and support sustainable economic growth, consumer welfare, environment and innovation promotion for our Member States.

About ICCIA:

The Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA) is an international
organization affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It represents the private sector in the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, totaling fifty-seven (57), in addition to the observer members, and other associate members of Muslim minorities. The Chamber aims to enhance cooperation among its member states in the fields of trade, industry, and information technology, promoting investment opportunities and joint ventures among member states.
