A Follow-up meeting on the Project of the Establishment of Microfinance Institutions in the G-5 Sahel Member States

In pursuit of a prosperous economic future, ICCIA organized a virtual follow-up meeting on the Project of the establishment of Microfinance Institutions in the G-5 Sahel Member States, on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in the presence of The Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs, OIC, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, and representatives from representatives from the G5 Sahel Countries.

The meeting started with the opening speech of H.E. Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakheet, the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs at OIC, who acknowledged the significant role of ICCIA in driving forward this crucial project, expressing his appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the project partners, particularly the Chambers of Commerce in Burkina Faso, Chad, Niger, Mauritania, and Mali, as well as the national committees dedicated to monitoring the project’s implementation.

Ms. Aalia Jafar, Director of International Relations at ICCIA, delivered her opening speech at the meeting, highlighting ICCIA commitment, as a representative of the private sector in 57 countries, to build a sustainable global economy. In this regard, she also emphasized the need for cooperation among public and private entities, as well as international organizations, to address the challenges outlined in the UN’s 2030 agenda for sustainable development, thus achieving economic growth, promoting industry, fostering innovation, reducing inequalities, and adopting responsible practices for climate action.

During the meeting, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, CEO, ICCIA Holding Company, gave a follow-up presentation on the project, reviewing the implementation of the recommendations from the Follow-up Meeting on the establishment of Microfinance Institutions in the G-5 Sahel countries, held on 20 December, 2022, in Mauritania.
