The 1st GCC-ASEAN Summit

In a historic meeting, the First GCC – ASEAN Summit was held, bringing together leaders and heads of 16 Gulf and Asian countries, on October 20, 2023, in the Capital City Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in order to explore avenues for strengthening mutual cooperation between the two parties.
 
H.E. Mr. Joko Widodo, the Indonesian President and Current Chairperson of ASEAN, participated in the Summit, stressing the importance of the summit and its vital role in promoting the country’s economic growth, and emphasizing the urgent need to maximize economic potential, through balanced, open and fair trade investments.
 
His Excellency also highlighted the importance of establishing the economic framework for the ASEAN and Gulf States, by issuing Halal certificates, developing Halal tourism and enhancing food security, as well as creating useful and sustainable partnerships to accelerate growth in various economic areas.
 
It should be noted the vital role of the Islamic Chamber Halal Services (ICHS) in developing the Halal market, by issuing reliable certificates to determine the compliance of products with the Islamic Sharia principles, as well as establishing the necessary partnerships to support Halal products and services, and promote Halal trade worldwide.
